University dropouts

I have a vision for my country: a prosperous, peaceful, harmonious, technological, and competitive place, where everyone has access to education and becomes purpose-driven and empowered individuals. To achieve this, I focus on addressing the talent shortage in software development and high university dropout rates, particularly in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Antioquia.

The private sector has been experiencing a shortage of engineers and software programmers, while universities fail to meet the demand. Currently, we graduate only around 7,000 engineers/programmers per year, leaving us with a talent deficit of between 90,000 and 240,000 professionals. This hinders our progress in knowledge-based development and the economy.

University dropout, especially in Systems Engineering, is a nationwide problem. The University of Antioquia faces a high dropout rate, which has devastating social costs. I propose a mentoring program where advanced students assist first-semester students, which has shown to reduce dropout rates by 20%. Additionally, a system can be established where companies provide financial support to students in exchange for a percentage of their salaries once they graduate.

Addressing students' economic difficulties and family pressure is also important. Here, the private sector can contribute through computer donations, assistance in structuring financing instruments, and involving their employees in volunteer activities.

In summary, a collaborative approach is needed to achieve a shared vision of development in the country. Through mentoring programs, financial support from companies, and active participation of the private sector, we can reduce the talent shortage and university dropout rates, paving the way towards a prosperous and technological future.

If you have any specific requests for reduction or if there's anything particular you'd like to emphasize, please let me know."
